Sometimes everything starts with a decision.
And sometimes something ends with a decision.
Sometimes decisions are made to change something.
And sometimes decisions are made to consciously avoind something.
What really fascinates me is how people react to the decisions you make.
Small or life-changing decisions, the reaction of other people can be very different.
Some simply ignore it. They don’t care at all. Your life, your decision.
Others might understand your decision, maybe even support as much as they can.
Others don’t understand, but still accept and respect your decision.
And there are people who cannot accept your decision at all. Maybe because they don’t understand. Maybe because they don’t agree. Maybe because your decision triggered deep emotions. – Whatever the reason is, they make a big deal about it.
This is when you get too much “you should” and “you should not” and “you should have” and “you should not have”. To make you feel bad. To make you guilty. To change your mind (at least, this might be their hope) even if you don’t want.
But why? – Simply because you made a decision that others don’t understand.
In other words, the main question is: do they want to understand at all?
Are they open to discuss it, or simply want to push their emotions, thoughts, fears, frustrations, trans-generational baggage, and who-knows-what-else on you.
In other words: it’s about them, not you. It’s about their reaction, and not about your decision.
Your life, your decision.
Willing to understand, and being open to discuss, moreover to accept your decision even if they don’t agree with it is their decision.
You can understand their motives or not.
You can agree with their reaction or not.
But it is their decision.
